Streicker Nysa 2018

This comes from the original Lewis plantings in 1976. It gets about 50% new oak and only the best barrels are selected. The first of these was made in 2015. A mighty impressive wine from a blend of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. The perfumed franc carries the aromas while the more substantial assertive cabernet adds structure and poise. On the nose a combination of blackberry and cherry with a little chocolaty dark plum releases. The palate has excellent fleshy with a thread of minerally acid and fine tannins in support. The addition of graphite and bay leaf adds that final touch. Oh, and Nysa is the mountain where Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, was supposedly raised by rain nymphs. Outstanding.
